Palestinian flag raised at UN for the first time
After ending his speech at the UN General Assembly, Abu Mazen walked to the Palestinian flag-raising ceremony and declared September 30th ‘Palestinian Flag Day’. Earlier Abu Mazen stated: “We will not abide by agreements with Israel.” Watch:
Minutes after Abu Mazen’s resolute speech against Israel at the UN the Palestinian flag was raised outside the UN headquarters. Palestine has a status of a non-member observer state at the UN, and this symbolic moment was another step of political support in the Palestinian Authority and in Abu Mazen, who was warmly received and applauded during his speech.
Palestinian representatives thanked UN officials for their support. Abu Mazen announced at the flag raising ceremony that starting today September 30th will be ‘Palestinian Flag Day’. Earlier Abu Mazen declared his political intentions and stated: “Today we are raising our flag at the UN, and the day is not far, god willing, that our flag will be raised in East Jerusalem, the capital of the Palestinian state.”
